Louisiana loses French flavor after hurricanes

Southern Louisiana endures, and New Orleans is champing to rebuild, but their unique flavor is bound to fade if the French Louisianans don't return. That community faces "probably the greatest catastrophe" in its history, said David Cheramie, who directs the state's Council for the Development of French.

Kinsey Institute gallery displays animal imagery in erotic art

The Kinsey Institute invites all to view its current gallery show, "Passionate Creatures," which focuses on animal imagery in art. The gallery is filled with paintings, sculptures, drawings and artifacts spanning more than 2,000 years, all encompassing this specific imagery and displaying its many different interpretations.

His light-up shoes beam flashes of red in the dark theater as he kicks his feet together in excitement. Saturday, the Puck Players Public Theatre puppet troupe performed "The Little Red Hen" and "Chicken Little" free of charge to a large audience at the Monroe County Public Library.

Not just for museums, art can be purchased at shops along the Gallery Walk

If there was a metaphor for the diversity of art involved in Friday evening's Gallery Walk, it would be the refreshment tables -- salmon pâté next to candy corn. During the appropriately named "Downtown Gallery Walk" event, nine downtown art galleries collaborate to show their collections in a three-hour block of time. Friday evening, the public was allowed to tour Bloomington galleries from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Playoffs test speed, talent

Nine teams comprised of a writer, director and one to three actors will continue to compete this weekend in the 4th annual Bloomington Playwrights Project Playoffs. Scrap metal forms beautiful works for Argentine artist

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- The artist sculpted his big metal T-Rex from old train parts and gave it railroad spikes for teeth. He used scrap metal to build the giant ants and the crocodile on display in his studio behind a train station.

Tibetan Cultural Center hosts song lessons

Bloomington is home to many cultural centers. One such center is the Tibetan Cultural Center, located at 3655 S. Snoddy Rd., which is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the community about Tibetan culture. The center plays host to many programs, such as yoga classes, meditation sessions, cooking classes and lectures. A program titled "Songs of Marpa" has been running since Sept. 27 and will continue until Dec. 6.

Student photographer's work on display at local café

Fall Ballet features variety of music, dance during weekend

IU's ballet season is not limited only to "The Nutcracker" every Christmas. The IU Ballet Theater gave its first performances of the year Friday and Saturday at the Musical Arts Center which consisted of four pieces, including two world premieres. Award-winning 'Blast!' reconnects with Hoosier roots

The odd lot of latex body parts is part of "The Lord of the Rings" exhibition, opening Thursday for a three-month run at the Indiana State Museum.

Noah Bambach returns with 'Squid and Whale'

NEW YORK -- It's taken Noah Baumbach 10 years to get back to where he started. The director of "The Squid and the Whale" was considered a wunderkind at 25 when his 1995 debut, "Kicking and Screaming," played at the New York Film Festival. A decade later, the native New Yorker finally returned.
