Herrera named Latino Educator of the Year

As a native Colombian, department of Spanish and Portuguese lecturer Israel Herrera never anticipated living, let alone teaching and being a community activist, in the United States.

This month, Herrera was named the 2014 Indiana Latino Educator of the Year. Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard presented the award to Herrera on May 3 at the Indiana Latino Expo.
