The antipreneur

·

For an entrepreneur or any young, ambitious person, it is crucial to be around individuals who are supportive and positive. Entrepreneurs can be a part of three different environments: antipreneurial, listening, or entrepreneurial environments. Today, I will cover the role of the "antipreneur."

Butcher's Block targets hungry tailgaters

·

If asked about his hobbies, Dave Schell, an IU alumnus who graduated in 2003, would just laugh. When you work 80-110 hours a week, there is not much time for anything else, he said.

No more hiding

Ladies, protect yourself from rape. Walk at night in groups. Don't wear revealing clothing. Don't drink too much.

Wyoming, beer and boredom

·

School districts across the country are facing budget cuts. And first on the chopping block are the after-school activities that provide students with outlets for their energy in safe and responsible environments. Despite their problems, after-school programs do entice students away from drugs, crime and general mayhem. But while school is logically the best place for athletics, art and music, a new government study shows that it does, in fact, take a whole village to raise a child.

Goodbye, Andre

·

Andre Agassi played his final professional match last weekend at the U.S. Open. During the long standing ovation he received and his brief, eloquent farewell speech, I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. It was sad to see such a remarkable tennis icon step off the court for the final time. But more than anything, I was moved by witnessing this last public chapter in Andre's amazing maturation from arrogant, aimless youth to selfless, philanthropic hero.

Not our kind of blast

·

After a Nevada newspaper recently reported that the Department of Defense was planning to conduct the largest nonatomic blast in U.S. history in our backyard, the residents of Bloomington and surrounding areas were understandably alarmed. Fortunately, the DoD has announced it won't run the operation here -- but that doesn't mean it's time for complacency. Mitchell, Ind., the rumored sight of the planned blast, is a small town 45 minutes away from Bloomington, where the government has held tests in the past. The area is strikingly similar in topography to Bloomington, with rolling hills, limestone deposits and an extensive cave system.

IU offense shines in victory

·

As members of the IU women's soccer team huddled together after their game Saturday, fireworks from nearby Memorial Stadium shot up in the air above them.

Hot air ballooned

·

As the Hoosier players linked arm-in-arm march alongside and behind IU coach Terry Hoeppner, a football not made of pigskin appeared in the end zone. Within seconds, the football -- inflated with hot air -- ballooned its way into the sky. This "football-up-high" signaled the game's opening kickoff -- not to the fans filling the stadium but perhaps to the fields filled with tailgaters too tanked to know the reason they were drunk in the first place.

While both athletes and fanatics alike prepared for the IU Community 5K Run on Friday, it was nothing more than another day of conditioning for the IU men's cross country team.

Adieu, Andre: Agassi's career ends with 3rd-round loss at Open

·

NEW YORK -- Crouched alone in the silence of the locker room, a pro tennis player no more, a red-eyed Andre Agassi twisted his torso in an attempt to conquer the seemingly mundane task of pulling a white shirt over his head. Never more than at that moment did Agassi seem so vulnerable, looking far older than his 36 years, wrestling not simply with his bad back but also with two overwhelming and conflicting emotions.
