Team sweeps final games at home

The No. 20 Hoosiers (11-5, 3-2) came away with two wins this weekend in their final home games of the season. Their first matchup was an offensive performance by the Hoosiers as they took a 4-1 decision over Penn State.

IU challenged by Iowa in 2-0 win

For the seven seniors on the field Sunday, it was a Senior Day to remember. The Hoosiers (10-3-2, 2-2-2) were victorious in a 2-0 rout against Iowa, but the game was much more competitive than the score indicates. Both teams came out of the gates aggressively, but IU outshot the Hawkeyes 9-1 in the first half. The action didn’t start heating up until late in the second half. At which point, 18 different Hoosiers clocked time on the field.

Hoosiers suffer 2 defeats over weekend

The IU volleyball team’s road trip ended with two more disappointing losses. The Hoosiers (14-10, 3-7) fell to No. 1 Penn State (22-0, 10-0) in straight sets Friday and suffered its third straight defeat at the hands of Ohio State (17-6, 5-5) on Saturday.

Hoosiers fail to adapt in must-win game

EVANSTON, Ill. – Evolution was at work on a nippy afternoon at Northwestern. As both the Hoosiers and the Wildcats fought for their seasons’ lives, adapting to changes was the difference between ecstatic victory and heart-wrenching defeat. When senior cornerback Ray Fisher dashed to the end zone for a 93-yard kickoff return to put IU up 28-3 with less than eight minutes to go in the first half, it looked like the Hoosiers were the far superior team. They weren’t.

NBA game at IU had a college feel

It was an NBA game, but it had an IU feel. Friday’s Pacers preseason game against the Spurs at Assembly Hall was the first NBA game in Bloomington since 1972.

Pacers, Spurs play spirited basketball in Assembly Hall

Whether through signs of frustration or contentment, the Pacers showed emotion that isn’t usually associated with an NBA preseason game. At Assembly Hall, a college arena where basketball is supposed to be at its purest, the Pacers and Spurs played as if it were already the postseason in Indiana’s 114-112 win. The Pacers, a middling team, had players with many reasons for doing so. A rookie attempted to find his place in the NBA, a journeyman tried to find a home and a big man tried to find out where he stood against one of the league’s best power forwards.

Kasavana mixes business with pleasure

Senior Emily Kasavana has an enthusiasm for the world that knows no bounds. She carries a natural keenness about her – an extreme gusto that is rivaled only by her work ethic. Now in her second year as co-captain for the rowing team, Kasavana discovered the sport her freshman year. That year, she was the only pure novice on the team to row for varsity.

Expert shares African art studies

Barbara Frank, associate professor of art history and African studies at Stony Brook University, gave a lecture Friday titled “Texts and Textures in African Ceramics” in conjunction with an exhibit in the IU Art Museum.
