IU pledges not to use products from old growth forests

Sarah Uhlemann, a senior, has spent the last eight months developing a policy that prevents IU from purchasing products from old growth forests. It looks like her work has paid off. Earlier this month, IU became the first major university to prohibit the purchase of products derived from old growth forests, according to a Bloomington Environmental Center press release.

Canceling game is wrong move

IU and Texas Tech mutually agreed to cancel their game for the 2002-2003 season. This game would have brought former head coach Bob Knight to Assembly Hall for the first competition since Feb. 29, 1999, when IU orchestrated a 79-65 victory against Purdue.

Korona lawyer calls lawsuit 'inevitable'

The parents of Seth Korona, who died after a fraternity accident, will file a lawsuit for the wrongful death of their son, family lawyer Richard Hailey said Wednesday. Hailey said Korona was hazed and encouraged to drink at Theta Chi fraternity and that the University was lenient in punishing alcohol violations. In a tort claims notice, obtained Wednesday from the University, Hailey names IU President Myles Brand, former Theta Chi President David Friedmann, Theta Chi fraternity, Bloomington Hospital and the Attorney General of Indiana.

Recent IU graduate Amy Gibbs could study for six hours at a time without so much as a coffee break. So in early October when she began to lose her concentration after hitting the books for less than two hours, she suspected something was wrong. Indiana Open kicks off season

The nationally ranked men's cross country team heads into its first meet tonight in one of the few home meets for the Hoosiers this season. MIAMI -- Thirteen current and former Miami police officers were accused in an indictment alleging they helped cover up wrongdoing in police shootings in which three people died. All were veteran officers assigned to special enforcement teams at the time of the shootings, which resulted in three deaths and one injury during the late 1990s.

The three-day extravaganza, Simply Living!: An Exploration of Sustainable Living, features more than 40 workshops, hands-on activities, live music, vendors, a children's tent, tabling by local businesses and activist groups, and a nationally-recognized keynote speaker.
