Series presents classic films to modern generation

In the era of HBO, DVDs and MP3s, Americans have the means to enjoy a classic Hollywood film in the comfort of their homes. But once upon a time, the only place to catch a movie in Bloomington was downtown at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. With the creation of the Golden Age of Hollywood film series and the renovation of the theater, the golden age of Hollywood has returned to Bloomington.

Comics crash academia

"Indiana Review," a literary journal published by IU, is currently working on its upcoming summer issue. While they normally print works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, this time they plan to give their readers something they might not expect -- a comic book. IR often includes visual art in its biannual issues, but this is the first time it will include an insert of comic art.

Music. Dance. Theater. Choreography. Performance Art. The nationally acclaimed act STOMP has been called all of the above. STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy and utterly unique. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments -- matchboxed, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps -- to produce a wide array of rhythm.

Photo exhibit accents the 'ordinary'

Orion Quartet graps comedy, tragedy in Beethoven quartets

Although this was the third of six Beethoven string quartet cycle concerts the Orion Quartet will perform at IU, it has not yet ceased to amaze. Its blend of technical mastery and complete control of the repertoire it is tackling led up to a remarkable performance Sunday.

Local dance troupe promotes elegance

Dressed in '80s attire, members of the Windfall Dance Company opened their show "Gasping for Breath" with a workout video parody of modern dance over the weekend. The show ran Friday and Saturday night in the Rose Firebay Theater of the John Waldron Arts Center, featuring dancers from the Windfall Dance Company, the Windfall Youth Ensemble and Parallel Differences, a high school-aged group of dancers directed by graduate student Shauna Steele.

Italian official resigns from U.S.-led Iraqi coalition

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- An Italian member of the U.S.-led coalition has resigned, accusing the Bush administration of inefficiency and failing to understand Iraq. In Tikrit, U.S. forces killing six alleged insurgents as they pressed their search Monday for a former Saddam deputy believed to be orchestrating attacks on Americans.

I think the idea to bring advertising to the residence halls is a great idea. After reading the article in the IDS on Nov. 14 titled "TV ads Invade Residence Halls," I wasn't quite sure it's a good idea for IU. First, where is $30,000 going to come from and where will it go? The article didn't really specify where, but it will go to programs and such. What programs?

'Educate' the masses

I was reading the article "Is IU a politically correct campus?" and I must say that yes, IU is a politically correct campus. Many viewpoints that are labeled politically incorrect are promptly noted, the person is "educated" on why they are wrong and their viewpoints are eradicated.

Save the 'Park and Ride'

One of the most persistent issues on campus is parking. In the students' eyes, IU doesn't do much to alleviate the problem. Stiff fines, expensive permits and overbooked slots leave many of us sitting in traffic hoping that a new parking space will just materialize in front of us.

Keep a personal touch

When people devalue something, they say things like, "that is a waste of time." "Don't waste my time," busy people complain. People really hate the notion of waste, especially waste of time. Technological advancement has focused on getting rid of it. Now you don't have to go to various places to do your business.

Gas poisoning kills 2 in cabin
