I was reading the article "Is IU a politically correct campus?" and I must say that yes, IU is a politically correct campus. Many viewpoints that are labeled politically incorrect are promptly noted, the person is "educated" on why they are wrong and their viewpoints are eradicated. Must I remind everyone there was a time when it was politically incorrect to talk about integration or to talk about civil rights for all men and women? A time when it was politically incorrect to talk about granting African Americans, immigrants, women and anyone that was not a white land owner the right to vote? When the Committee for Freedom was speaking out about what they felt was a social injustice in America, some people thought that it was politically incorrect and attempted to "educate" them. In the 1960s when Dr. Martin Luther King and other African Americans were speaking out against what they felt were a social injustices in America, were they not also being politically incorrect for the times? Did not the KKK try to "educate" them, and tell them that they were wrong?\nThis campus claims to have an "open mind," but I disagree. The administration takes no position and allows all viewpoints to be expressed, unless the viewpoint calls for violence against a certain group, as it should be. The student body, on the other hand, is a different story. There are always a vocal few that attempt to "educate" people when others express a viewpoint that is not the same as what they also believe. The GLBT with Rasmusen is a very good example, as mentioned in the article. We must respect other people's opinions even if they are not what we personally believe. It is not our job to "educate" them to see our viewpoint, because the most dangerous thing that can happen in America is to develop the attitude that our viewpoint is the only way and try to force it onto others.\nBeing open minded means being receptive to new ideas even if they are personally not what you want the new ideas to be.
