Gas poisoning kills 2 in cabin

BLOOMINGTON -- Carbon monoxide poisoning killed two hunters while they slept in a cabin in rural northern Monroe County, the coroner said.\nInvestigators found no signs of foul play, and a preliminary report lists the deaths as accidental, county Coroner David Toumey said Sunday.\nDavid Davis, 31, of Indianapolis, and Kevin Cox, 28, of Greenwood, were found dead by Davis' brother Friday afternoon inside their hunting cabin near Lake Lemon.\nThe two men had stayed the night before in the cabin, with Saturday marking the start of deer firearm season, Toumey said.\nTests found carbon monoxide levels of more than 70 percent in the men's bloodstream. The normal level is less than 2 percent.\nTwo 20-pound propane tanks that fueled a heater in the cabin were found empty at the scene about 10 miles north of Bloomington, Toumey said. He blamed a lack of ventilation for the deaths.\n"I think they were just buttoned up for the night, went to sleep and never woke up," Toumey said.
