INDIANAPOLIS -- If there was one nap that David Letterman was glad he never had the chance to take, it was on Sunday. Rain dominated the day, delaying the start of the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500 for two hours and nine minutes past its scheduled 11 a.m. start, thus delaying Buddy Rice's saturated run to the finish line. Once the race got started though, Rice showed the field and the spectators why he was on the pole, sitting in the lead for the first 13 laps before being overtaken by Alex Barron.

It should be enough to just say that the new Skinny Puppy album is industrial, one of those genres that was really cool and edgy for a few months in the mid-'90s, but like other popular-for-an-instant musical gimmicks (ska, for example), it never went anywhere; its highest achievement was somewhere between Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral and KMFDM's Money.

IU provides glasses to charity program

Violence erupts at union strike

BEDFORD -- Two cars were flipped Tuesday night and one set on fire as strikers at a Visteon Corp. auto parts plant tried to stop four buses that brought replacement workers into the factory. That action was the latest in several confrontations at the plant since the strike began early Sunday after members of International Union of Electrical Workers-Communications Workers of America Local 907 voted to reject a contract offer.

Construction to begin on Simon HallIU will officially break ground for the new Multidisciplinary Science Building, which will be called Simon Hall, from 3 to 4 p.m. today. The pre-ceremony event will take place in Myers Hall, Room 130, starting at 3 p.m. Construction on the building is expected to begin this month and is expected to reach completion in 2007.

Construction on State Road 37 continues

Construction on State Road 37 north of Bloomington is not scheduled for completion until Nov. 1, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation. The construction, which commenced April 19, covers approximately five miles from State Road 44 to Clear Creek Road in Martinsville. This is nothing new for drivers as construction has been done previously on different parts of the road.

Indianapolis to break ground on Artspark

The Indianapolis Art Center will celebrate its 70th birthday this weekend by breaking ground on a new endeavor. On Strike

Striking employees of the Visteon Corporation flipped two cars and a third was set on fire in an effort to keep replacement workers out of the Bedford, Ind., plant Tuesday. The employees went on strike in response to a plan to eliminate 600 of the plant's 1,150 jobs. Wednesday morning brought relative calm, although the tension between Visteon and the members of the International Union of Electrical Workers-Communications Workers of America Local 907 grew.
