Roach Motel: Partiers of the past, present find common ground

·

Behind a white, almost rotted, wooden sign accented with two hand-drawn roaches, a passerby would not suspect the Roach Motel to be more than an ordinary house with an unfortunate nickname. But from the Dunn family to a famous drummer to porn stars, the Roach Motel at the corner of Seventh Street and Indiana Avenue has seen it all.

Inefficient intolerance

·

Last week, the Indiana State Senate approved a joint resolution endorsing an amendment to the Indiana Constitution that would define marriage as only between a man and a woman. This amendment would effectively act as a permanent ban on gay marriage in the state of Indiana. The amendment now goes to the House.

Bye bye, Rudy

Rudy Giuliani dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination after a poor showing in Florida, and thus the man who led national polls for months played no role in Super Tuesday aside from supporting Sen. John McCain. For that, his awkward campaign strategy will likely be regarded as one of the most flawed in history.

All McCain's men

·

They say the first step to solving any problem is admitting you have a problem in the first place. And I just want to say “congratulations” to the Republican voters in Florida and South Carolina, for maybe, just maybe, taking the first step on the long road to recovery.

Age before beauty

We all watched as Sen. Hillary Clinton saw her “inevitable” win turn into a highly competitive race against the junior senator from Illinois, Barack Obama. We also watched as, even after Iowa and New Hampshire, it seemed as though there were four different candidates that could conceivably take the Republican nomination.

‘The Finite Show’ continues to be popular 10 years later

·

In 1998, professor Steve McKinley stood in front of the camera, clad in an oversized navy blue T-shirt in his grandmother's basement for the first episode of "The Finite Show." The show started as part of an initiative to help improve freshman retention, said Raymond Smith, associate vice provost in the office of academic affairs.

U.S. forces kill Sunni civilians, tensions rise

·

The U.S. military faced complaints Tuesday from its Sunni allies over claims that more civilians had been killed by American forces – amplifying tensions as the Pentagon tries to calm anger over an airstrike last week that claimed innocent lives.
