Students rock for rights

Political action against climate change and big money in government were the topics of discussion at the “Rock for Your Rights” concert Thursday at the Indiana Memorial Union Starbucks Cafe. The event was organized by the Democracy Matters Club.

Renovated theater opens new possibilities, cinema

IU President Michael McRobbie and Provost Karen Hanson will lead a ground-breaking ceremony to kick off renovation of the Theatre and Drama Building and construction of the new IU Cinema at 2 p.m. Saturday. The event, open to students and the public, will take place on the north side of the IU Auditorium.

‘12 Ophelias’ modernizes ‘Hamlet’

Beginning right where Ophelia’s story ends in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” the University Players will perform “Twelve Ophelias: A Play with Broken Songs”  at 8 and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday  at the Theater Annex.

On a recent visit to London, I was fortunate enough to visit a number of the city’s great venues of art, from the Tate Modern and the National Gallery to the Dali Universe and the Photographers’ Gallery.

Cubes, curves take shape in gallery

The past and present will cross paths at the School of Fine Arts Gallery on Friday. Work by Hope School of Fine Arts professor emeritus William Itter and fundamentals studio director Martha MacLeish will share the gallery space. Both exhibits open with a reception at 6:30 p.m.

Following a 3-0 road win against Notre Dame, the No. 23 IU men’s soccer team looks to carry its momentum back into the conference schedule.

In search of a table-turning win

The last time the Hoosiers faced off with the Fighting Illini in a homecoming battle under the lights in Champaign, IU took a 55-13 uppercut to the chin. This season, the parades will be marching through Bloomington and IU’s Memorial Stadium will be illuminated.

Whether it came through comic relief or taking a guy under his arm, Rivers silently attempted to lead a 6-25 team from the bench last year. A totally revamped group with a new coach and eight freshmen in tow took to the seasoned guard.

Davenport University (5-1), back-to-back American Collegiate Hockey Association D-II national champions, will be looking to continue their hot start to season at the expense of the Hoosiers.

Fresh off reclaiming a spot back in the national rankings, the No. 22 Hoosiers (9-3-1, 1-2-1) are set to travel to Michigan to face the Wolverines (5-6-2, 0-1-2) on Sunday.

The lively pluck of string instruments reverberated through out the open space of Rachael’s Cafe Thursday night as an audience came to see the last living member of legendary punk band The Ramones play bluegrass music.
