IUSA plans semester ahead

As the spring semester began, members of IU Student Association’s executive branch surveyed their work and discussed what is left to accomplish. In the second half of their term, this will mean both working to achieve goals and implementing a plan to transfer initiatives and power to a new administration.

Members of a new organization are hoping to encourage women who didn’t join a sorority to still be involved with campus-wide events, participate in charity work and expand their social networks. IU Independent Council is holding its spring call-out meeting at 7:30 p.m. today in room 211 in the Kelley School of Business.

It was a familiar story line, but this go-around had a different ending for the Indianapolis Colts.This time, there was no rust. There were no timing issues. And, most importantly, there was not another early, unexpected exit for a team that has faced more controversy in the last month than any other all season.

Greek debt crisis keeps EU finance officials on edge, threatens the euro

European Union finance ministers are pressing the indebted and riot-prone Greece to embrace a massive austerity plan and plug its debilitating deficit. But with many skeptical and little appetite for more bailouts, there are deepening concerns that a Greek meltdown could deal a severe blow to the idea of a common currency and set off a domino effect through Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Clevelend Orchestra Residency Postponed

The four-day Cleveland Orchestra residency, in question over the past several days due to an ongoing musician strike has been postponed, according to a press release from the Jacobs School of Music.

MLK Day inspires students to march

Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of change, struggled for equality and built his goals on a foundation of advocacy. Monday on IU’s campus, students helped to solidify many of King’s values by participating in celebratory events in his honor.

Sophomore guard Verdell Jones seemed as if he prayed in a free throw to trim Minnesota’s lead to 78-74, contorting his body as the basket prolonged IU’s shot at what would eventually be an 81-78 victory.
