Bloomington man sentenced to 30 years for manslaughter

A strait-laced Baptist stood in a Bloomington courtroom Friday and tried to explain the death of a Purdue University psychologist he shot and killed in 2008. The gunman, John R. Moore III, said he was protecting his three children and his wife from a sexual pervert. But for the victim’s family and friends, it was execution.

Students raise funds for Haiti with buffet dinner

Students can still buy $10 tickets for a Haiti benefit dinner, which hopes to raise $5,000. The money will benefit Partners in Health, an organization that has been working in Haiti for more than 20 years to bring medical care to 12 countries worldwide, according to its Web site.

“Spoken word is poetry, but it’s basically a song without music,” said IU alumnus Branden Scott. “Spoken word has more feeling. It’s like giving a speech. Poetry is reading from a book; it’s not emotional. Spoken word is a conversation meant to sway you.”
