Scholarship committee seeks leadership, grades

With many school districts, including the Monroe County Community School Corporation, making cutbacks due to financial strain, extracurricular activities offered by the schools are getting pulled onto the chopping block. However, these cuts not only affect students during their high school years but continue to follow them into their college admission and scholarship application processes.

Red Mango store to open on campus

Bloomington is lacking a store in the yogurt and smoothie market that promotes health, said IU alumnus Luke Angermeier. Angermeier will be opening the city’s first Red Mango store on IU’s campus in the fall.

IU Swing Dance club collaborates with Windfall Dance Studio

The IU Swing Dance Club and interested community members put their dancing shoes to work Saturday night as part of the club’s Summer Fancy Dance.The Windfall Dance Studio on North Dunn Avenue provided the venue for the free event, and anyone interested was welcome to participate regardless of age, club membership or skill level.

Arts programs affected by MCCSC budget cuts

Changes to the Monroe County Community School Corporation teacher contract changes resulted in stipend cuts for extracurricular and co-curricular activities, including music and arts programs. With a successful and supported referendum on the November ballot, these activities have a chance of being restored for the 2011-12 school year.
