NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Felice Bryant, who with her late husband wrote "Bye Bye Love" and other Everly Brothers hits and the hand-clapping bluegrass standard "Rocky Top," died Tuesday. She was 77.

Jazz great Nina Simone dies in France

NEW YORK -- Nina Simone, whose deep, raspy, forceful voice made her a unique figure in jazz and later helped define the civil rights movement, died Monday at her home in France, according to her personal manager. She was 70.

Funnyman Ferrell gets 'serious' about marathon

BOSTON --Will Ferrell arrives on time at a tapas restaurant on trendy Newbury Street, not far from the finish line of the Boston Marathon. He's dressed to run, wearing jogging shoes and ankle socks, a windbreaker and black Lycra tights that show how thin his legs have gotten since he began training for the 26.2-mile distance.

Audience to vote on first 'Hoosier Idol' today

Tonight, 10 contestants will vie for the title of "Hoosier Idol." The unidentified contestants, who were chosen from the students who auditioned, will be performing onstage at 7:30 p.m. at the IU Auditorium in front of a group of their peers.

NEW YORK -- Madonna's "American Life" video has been reincarnated as a tamer, nonviolent version of its former self. The performer scrapped the original version because she thought its violent, antiwar themes were inappropriate during the U.S.-led conflict in Iraq.

Hip-hop dance group performs last show of the season

IU Essence will be performing for the last time this school year at the Black Student Union's fashion show at 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. The dance team performs at different venues throughout the school year, the most recent being the Faculty and Staff for Student Excellence Mentoring Program's annual banquet and awards ceremony.
