Actor Robert Rockwell dies at 82

MALIBU, Calif. -- Robert Rockwell, who played dozens of television roles including Philip Boynton, the shy biology teacher and love interest for Eve Arden in the 1950s sitcom "Our Miss Brooks," has died at age 82, his family said Monday.

'Oklahoma' a golden oldie

NEW YORK -- That golden haze on the meadow is a bit brighter the second time around. The current Broadway revival of "Oklahoma!" received a muted welcome from many of the critics when it opened at the Gershwin Theatre last March. Tasteful, a tad sedate and a little reverential, the production was intimidated perhaps by the show's standing as a landmark of the American musical theater.

Long-time '60 Minutes' producer to step down

NEW YORK -- Don Hewitt, who invented "60 Minutes" and has been its executive producer since the stopwatch began ticking in 1968, announced Monday he is stepping down next year. Hewitt, 80, will be succeeded by Jeff Fager, executive producer of "60 Minutes II."

Publishing executive joins rival house

NEW YORK -- A Random House executive forced out of her job for not generating enough profits has joined a leading rival, the Penguin Group. Ann Godoff, who published such best sellers at Random House as Caleb Carr's The Alienist and Zadie Smith's White Teeth, will become president and publisher of her own imprint at Penguin.

Carlin, DiFranco coming

Tickets for two April events will soon go on sale. Comedian George Carlin will perform at the IU Auditorium on April 6. Fans of folk music and punk rock may find each other at the same event on April 14 as Ani DiFranco brings elements of both genres to the IU Auditorium.

Doors open for young musicians

This isn't the latest episode of "American Idol," but the finals of the 2003 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. National Theatre has new policy

LONDON -- Reduced ticket prices and an expanded repertoire are planned for the Royal National Theatre under its new artistic director, whose projects will include plays by Shakespeare, Mike Leigh and Tom Stoppard, and a musical inspired by Jerry Springer.

Tony winning actress dies at 54

BEVERLY HILLS -- Nell Carter, who played the sassy, matronly housekeeper on the 1980s sitcom "Gimme a Break!" and received a Tony Award in 1978 for her performance in the Broadway musical "Ain't Misbehavin,'" died Thursday, her publicist said. She was 54.

Haute couture in showy summer mood

PARIS -- Emanuel Ungaro, who loves fabrics and luxe looks, came out with a decorative summer haute couture collection Wednesday that harked back to the roaring '20s and the slinky '30s. Under huge, flowered net picture hats, models wore bias-cut, satin lingerie-style gowns topped with embroidered and jeweled jackets fit for a movie queen like Marlene Dietrich.
