Intertwining art and reality, Margaret Dolinsky’s “Inter:Facing” premiered Sept. 9 in the Grunwald Gallery of Art at the School of Fine Arts. Five pieces filled the gallery and allowed audience members to interact with the computer-mediated portraitures.

Jacobs organist shares personal chronology for love of music

Janette Fishell began playing piano at age five.Fishell now works as a professor in the Jacobs School of Music. She recently embarked upon a 21-concert, three-year project, “The Seasons of Sebastian,” in which she performed the complete organ works of J. S. Bach for the first time on campus and in the Bloomington community.

MAC welcomes a full ballet and opera schedule

IU Opera and Ballet Theater Production Director Tim Stebbins said he is confident everyone can find something to enjoy this season, from comedies to dramas. “There’s going to be a little bit of something for everyone this season,” Stebbins said. Favorites like “The Nutcracker” and “Candide” will be joined by new productions such as “The Sleeping Beauty” and “Der Rosenkavalier”.

Folk-rock to charm Buskirk

On Sept. 16, musician Mason Jennings will perform at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater during the first week of his tour, which is expected to run through February. This tour comes on the wake of his latest album, “Minnesota,” which will be available Sept. 13.

Band Heinous Orca talks punk

Punk band Heinous Orca is a tale of two cities, Nashville and Bloomington. Twins Isabel and Laura Solomon, on drums and vocals respectively, are recent graduates of IU returned to their native Nashville, Tenn. while guitarist Austin Hoke and bass player Evan Latt are finishing their senior year at IU.

Kin served simmering food on a white tablecloth and introduced Bloomington locals to an international culture. “I like the Mandalay fritter. It’s a Burmese traditional side dish and one of the most famous foods” Kin said.

Jacobs professor to create symphonic work

Baker was recently commissioned to compose an original multi-symphonic work by the Meet The Composer 2011 Commissioning Music/USA program. The piece is to be performed by Ohio’s Canton Symphony Orchestra, a group that Baker has collaborated with in the past.

As part of the 35th annual Forth Street Festival, the Bloomington Storytellers Guild touted tales to curious college students, agile children and tie-dye clad adults on Saturday. They wove messages from urban legends and mythical tales into theatrical narratives.
