The legendary Count Basie Orchestra came to the Buskirk-Chumley Theater Feb. 9, bringing with them some of the best big band music ever to hit the stage. Solidly in the top two big bands of all time, the Basie Orchestra energized and elated the Buskirk-Chumley as it has been doing since 1935.

“The Book of Mormon” made its 20th stop on its national tour at the IU Auditorium Tuesday. The satirical musical, which will be at IU until Thursday, tells the story of two Mormon missionaries struggling to spread the word of their religion in Uganda.

half•alive gained major steam in 2018 with the release of their single “still feel.” The song rose to popularity for its groovy and punchy pop sound and for its music video, which features precise, flashy choreography. Luckily for the band, what initially drew listeners to “still feel.” happened to be their strengths. Their debut album, “Now, Not Yet,” released a year later and garnered hundreds of millions of streams.

It takes a careful hand to create an album whose songs all share the same mood. Often, the songs can blur together and become monotonous, leaving the listener bored after three or four tracks.

On Nov. 11, 2011, MGMT played a one-time-only live set of music at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in conjunction with and inspired by Maurizio Cattelan’s exhibit “All.” Cattelan, who was most recently noted for his piece “Comedian” — consisting of a banana duct taped to a wall — suspended 130 of his pieces from the ceiling of the Guggenheim rotunda.

Remixes hold a strange place in my heart. I tend to avoid them when they’re based on songs I know, as they don’t typically live up to the quality of the original. I more often will listen to a remix of a song I don’t know, sometimes without ever bothering to listen to the original due to the strength of the remix.

The increasing trend of YouTubers and other social media celebrities venturing into the music industry has had mixed results. Many of them perform in good faith, and some even do so quite well, but many others see an avenue toward monetary gain. As such, the products of these endeavors tend to vary in quality.

As one of Mexico’s most well-known and successful singers, Natalia Lafourcade has spent the last seven years producing homages to Latin America’s greatest musicians, such as Agustín Lara and Roberto Cantoral. Since 2015’s “Hasta la Raíz,” Lafourcade had not released an album of entirely original music until the release of “De Todas las Flores” on Oct. 27.

The Soweto Gospel Choir performed their concert, “HOPE: It’s been a long time coming” at the IU Auditorium on Oct. 18. The concert showcased freedom songs of South Africa’s apartheid regime, as well as those of America’s civil rights movement.
