____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>While many students spent the Thanksgiving holiday with their families, the IU women’s basketball team went sightseeing in San Fransisco. The Hoosiers (2-2) are in the midst of a five-game road trip and will begin play in the Hilton Concord Classic in Moraga, Calif., on Friday against Radford (0-3) at 8 p.m. ET. Earlier in the week the team snapped a two game loosing streak against the Missouri Tigers with a 63-54 victory in Columbia, Mo. Senior forward Whitney Thomas lead the way with 23 points and 16 rebounds and said the game was imporant for the team to win. “We definitely had to come back and make a statement,” Thomas said. The day after their game the Hoosiers got on an airplane and flew four hours to the west coast. Despite the fatigue, IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack said her team had a good practice Thursday afternoon. After practice the team went sightseeing in San Fransisco with activities including the Golden Gate Bridge, a visit to Lombard Street, Pier 39, and a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at their hotel. While many athletes are far from their homes, one athlete will be reunited with her family this weekend in California. Senior forward Amber Jackson was born in Yokosuka, Japan, where her father was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Jackson’s mother and sister now live in California, only two hours away from where the team will be playing this weekend. Jackson’s family will stay with the Hoosiers at their team hotel. Jackson said this moment will be very special for her and her family as it will be the first time her mother has seen her play since she tranfered to IU from San Jose State after her sophomore year. Legette-Jack said she is happy that Jackson can spend time with her family, something she said is important for her athletes, especially the seniors. “We are going to take her out to Saint Mary’s and put her in front of her mom to let her know that we didn’t kidnap her or knock her down, and hurt her, we hopefully made her better,” Legette-Jack said. Jackson said she and her teammates are excited to be in California and really want to do well. “We are focused and determined to come out of here with two wins,” Jackson said. If the Hoosiers beat Radford they will face the winner of the match between tournament host Saint Mary’s and La Salle in the tournament final which would take place Saturday night. The Hoosiers will conclude their five-game road trip when they travel to Coral Gables, Fla., on Dec. 5 for the ACC/Big Ten Women’s Basketball Challenge, before returning to Asssembly Hall on Dec. 9 to take on Butler.
After practice on Thursday the Hoosiers went to the Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, Lombard Street, and had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at their hotel.
Following their win over Missouri the Hoosiers took a four hour plane ride to California and then an additional hour and a half drive to their hotel. Earlier today they practiced in preparation for their game Friday night against Radford.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!
I like that title it has a nice ring to it....

After returning from Tennessee following a 65-59 loss to Middle Tennessee State late on Saturday night the Hoosiers (1-2) departed for Missouri Monday afternoon.
The following are quotes from IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack after her team's 65-59 loss against Middle Tennessee State Saturday night in their final game of the preseason WNIT. The Hoosiers are now 1-2 for the season.
____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>After an upsetting loss, the IU women’s basketball team will have an opportunity to make a statement Saturday against Middle Tennessee State in a WNIT consolation game Saturday in Murfreesboro, Tenn. In the Hoosiers’ (1-1) first three games including exhibitions, the team had an average margin of victory of more than 28 points. Then the No. 22-ranked Xavier Musketeers came to town. After leading for much of the game, the Hoosiers were defeated 62-59 after junior guard Jamie Braun’s 3-point attempt in the final seconds rimmed out in the second round of the preseason WNIT last Sunday. IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack acknowledged her team played well against a quality opponent and is optimistic about its future. “I think we are playing great basketball in November, and this team we lost to was a March team,” she said. “I think if we keep doing what we need to do, we will be able to play those teams in March and come out successful, so I’m excited about where we are right now.”Legette-Jack said another reason she is optimistic is that the things the Hoosiers need to work on are correctable, such as blocking out better and shooting a higher percentage from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Jori Davis, a team captain, also talked about not dwelling on the loss, but instead allowing it to motivate the team in the future. “It’s kind of a bad thing, but whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” Davis said. “It’s kind of good to get that loss out of the way and continue on with the season and never let a close game like that slip away again.”The Hoosiers found out their opponent late Wednesday night – Middle Tennessee State, which lost to Oklahoma 85-65. In the short time Legette-Jack has analyzed the Blue Raiders, she said they have a great inside-outside game, good point-guard play and great 3-point shooting. As Legette-Jack has said all season, she likes to focus more on her own team and what they need to do. “It’s just not about them, it’s about us and what we come to do,” she said. “We got to keep it about ourselves. We are going to still play our matchups, we’re going to still play with intensity and purpose and see where the chips fall.”The Hoosiers are led this season by a talented senior class, but that is not to say that there are not a variety of players who contribute. Freshman forward Sasha Chaplin has seen playing time in each of the Hoosiers’ first two games and said she is excited to have the chance to help the team. “I know not a lot of freshmen get the chance to actually play the amount of minutes that I got to play in my first game,” she said. “I’m just taking full advantage of it and going out and playing hard.”For the Hoosiers, playing hard and with intensity will be key following a tough loss. Davis said the team is focused on getting better and making progress. “Everyone has their things they need to work on, and we have been doing it in practice,” she said. “Mostly, it’s about just keeping the energy up, letting this loss go and moving forward.”
IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced two more recruits today that have signed letters of intent to play for the Hoosiers beginning in the 2009-2010 season.
The Hoosiers now know where they will be traveling this weekend for their third game of the WNIT. IU beat Ball State 84-68 on last Friday before loosing to No.22 Xavier 62-59 on Sunday.
The Indiana Daily Student Basketball Guide is set to hit the presses tonight and will be available across the IU campus and Bloomington tomorrow.
IU Athletics recently released a composition of her biography, season schedule, stats, highlight tape, and photos which can be viewed here.
With a loss to No. 22 Xavier in the second round of the pre-season WNIT the Hoosiers won't be returning to play in Assembly Hall any time soon.
IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack expressed disappointment in only 506 people coming out for the game at the press conference following her team's 62-59 loss to No. 22 Xavier Sunday. "I look at my box scores and the worst number I see is five-hundred and six. On a Sunday afternoon when our young women are going all out to compete for this great institution, for this great community, and this is no support." -She added that she thought the team had more of a home court advantage on the road and purposed the idea of scheduling more games on the road -Also she said she felt her team did not have the support necessary for a Big Ten school click here to see the IDS recap of the game Other notes not making it in the story: Coach Jack on the last play of the game where Jamie Braun missed a shot that would have tied in in the final seconds: "We made one wrong pass that cost us a couple of seconds. We got to hit the open shot. That's what coaches do, we design plays to get you the open shot and we got to hit them." Amber Jackson on physical nature of the game: "I'm a power forward so I wouldn't expect anything less. The game down low is very physical and tonight was just an example of that." What are your THOUGHTS on the low attendance for the game? Do you see this improving? Do you think its just going to take some time until they build up more of a tradition of success.
____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>As IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack looked at the box score following her team’s WNIT second-round defeat at the hands of No. 22 Xavier, she didn’t immediately point to the Hoosiers’ 35.7 percent shooting or 66.7 percent free-throw shooting.Legette-Jack expressed disappointment in one number among many on the stat sheet – 506. The stat represented the attendance for the Hoosiers’ 62-59 defeat against the Musketeers in Assembly Hall on Sunday. “I look at my box scores, and the worst number I see is 506,” Legette-Jack said. “On a Sunday afternoon, when our young women are going all-out to compete for this great institution, for this great community, and this is no support.”The Hoosiers got off to a quick start, as sophomore guard Jori Davis scored the first six points of the game, and IU led by 13 at the 10:26 mark of the first half. The Hoosiers held the lead all the way until 16:44 to go in the second half, when a 3-pointer by Xavier guard Jerri Taylor gave the Musketeers a 36-35 advantage. On the final possession, with IU down by three points with 14.1 seconds to go, junior guard Jamie Braun had a good look to send the game into overtime, but could not convert. Each team had four players score in double figures, as Davis led IU with 13, followed by senior forwards Whitney Thomas and Amber Jackson, each with 12. Thomas, who played all 40 minutes in the game, had 14 rebounds to go with her 12 points, and playing down low, she absorbed plenty of hits, including one that forced her to pause and wipe blood from her nose. But she kept getting back up – Thomas expected a rough game. “We knew coming into this game how Xavier played and how they like to pound it into the post and back you down,” she said. “Like Coach Jack said, (the referees) let us play and we just kept on going out there and competing against each other.”Jackson said she thought she and Thomas battled well.“Xavier’s post players are very physical, and myself and Whitney Thomas tried to, and we did, battle just as hard as they did,” she said. Legette-Jack expressed pride in Thomas for all the hard work and resilience with which she played. “She is a tough cookie, I tell you, and this game is a microcosm of the way she demands to lead her life,” Legette-Jack said. “This is going to help her get tougher when things get tough outside of basketball.”After averaging just more than 86 points in exhibition games against Southern Indiana and Indianapolis and a first-round victory against Ball State, the Hoosiers played a much closer game against Xavier, a team Legette-Jack said embodies what she thinks her team can become.“We played against a team that is very accustomed to playing in March, and we are trying to inspire to get there, and we’re getting closer,” she said. “One day, we will have our time.”Overall, the Hoosiers appeared to bring much of the same intensity and passion that allowed them to beat Ball State 84-68 on Friday. But the Musketeers, the back-to-back Atlantic 10 champions, posed a greater challenge. Xavier coach Kevin McGuff said he believes the Hoosiers will be a strong team this year. “I think Indiana is going to have a terrific season,” he said. “I would be hopeful that all of the Hoosier faithful will really come out and support this team.”As for Legette-Jack, she said no matter what support her team gets, the passion and intensity won’t change. “We are not going to change who we are. We are not going to change what we do,” she said. “Our hope is that more will come, but if no one shows up, we are going to compete as if it’s the last day of our lives, and we’re going to leave it out on the floor.”
