After months of protests and listening sessions, the IU Board of Trustees will once again discuss designating the Kinsey Institute as a “university-related entity” at meetings Feb. 29 and March 1 at IU Southeast’s campus in New Albany. IU officials have said the decision will help put them in compliance with a new Indiana law barring state dollars from the institute, but critics claim the move will put the institute’s collections of sexological artifacts in jeopardy by placing them in university control, where they could be vulnerable to future outside pressure.

Members of the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition (IGWC) assembled at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Franklin Hall to formally file a request to IU President Pamela Whitten’s office explicitly calling for a living wage minimum based on the MIT Living Wage Calculator for graduate workers — known as Student Academic Appointees (SAAs). The IGWC also asked for the union to be recognized by the administration through voting rights.

IU President Pamela Whitten was awarded a $162,500 bonus by the Board of Trustees for her second-year performance Indiana public media article obtained in a public records request. The bonus was approved unanimously by the board at their Aug. 24 meeting. The bonus is 25% of her $650,000 annual salary, the maximum allowed in Whitten's employment contract.

Bloomington voters took to the polls today to vote on a school funding referendum as well as races for mayor, city clerk and city council. Though the referendum and the District 3 city council race were the only contested items on the ballot, 10,441 voters cast their ballots in this election.

About 30 people sat in a circle Monday at the Frangipani Room in the Indiana Memorial Union. They passed a microphone around, solemnly reading names, ages ranging from as young as two years old and as old as 79 and hometowns off a list projected onto the screen at the front of the room. These names belong to people missing or killed during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. While many news outlets have reported on the daunting number of casualties and hostages, the IU Robert and Sandra Borns Jewish Studies Program vigil recognized each number represents a human life.

In the flashing red and blue light of police cars, students in support of Israel and students in support of Palestine faced off at Sample Gates on Monday night, separated by a line of police officers. For 20 minutes, both groups waved their flags, chanted and yelled at each other — the tense culmination of a night that began with two peaceful gatherings.
