For those of you not into the World Cup, and since today is a much slower news day compared to the excitement of yesterday, I thought we would start a discussion on the what-ifs--if Coach Izzo does leave Michigan State. Especially because several other websites have mentioned Crean as an option.
UPDATE: Jeff Coover has tied for 5th place in the pole vault. He is now a four-time All-American.
Izzo has reportedly not made a decision on whether he will bolt for the pros, according to a text message he sent to a friend, talk-show host Jack Ebling. Ebling works for WILS-AM.
USA Today is reporting that both Texas and Texas A&M are interested in joining the Big Ten. The initial report came from KCTV-5 in Kansas City.
Micah Johnson has been named a 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and becomes the 3rd Hoosier in 3 years to receive a Freshman All-America award.
USC UPDATE: The USC football team will be unable to participate in the 2010 and 2011 postseasons, and will vacate all wins that former RB Reggie Bush was involved in (beginning in Dec '04), including the 2004 championship. The team will lose 10 scholarships/year for the next 3 seasons.

Molly Beckwith finished the 800-meter in 2:03.90, the second-fastest qualifying time. The 800-meter finals are 5:50 p.m. PT on Friday.
The Hoosiers have added their 9th commitment for the 2011 recruiting class, as Nick VanHoose has verbally committed. VanHoose, 6-foot-1, 175-pound, is the 4th player for Ohio to commit to IU.
Several sources are reporting that Nebraska has accepted an offer to join the Big Ten.
The 2010 version is also hotly anticipated, as ESPN has billed the match “the biggest game of the World Cup.” There is much more than a game at stake, as the winner between the two will most likely determine who wins Group C. The United States seems to have the upper hand in momentum, as it has put up two solid wins in its final games before World Cup action, defeating its opponents 5-2.

ESPN is reporting that Nebraska is currently leaning toward leaving the Big 12, and joining the Big 10.
Senior outfielder Michael Earley and reshirt sophomore Ethan Wilson were both selected by the Chicago White Sox. Wilson was selected first, with the 758th overall pick and in the 25th round, while Earley was taken in the 29th round, with the 878th overall pick.
Tennis player Lachlan Ferguson has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America third team, and is the first IU men's tennis player to ever earn that honor.
Former Football player Jammie Kirlew and junior track and field athlete Faith Sherrill have both been named recipients of the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars award.
IU men's basketball coach Tom Crean is one of many who responded with shock and fury about the recent teacher contract changes at the Monroe County Community School Corporation. The agreement will cut stipends for extracurricular activities, which includes sports, music and all other after-school activities. The stipends will be cut for one academic year.
