Since he founded proto-punk band The Modern Lovers in 1970, Jonathan Richman has been one of the most prolific figures in American music, dropping new full-length albums almost every other year since his full-length debut in 1975. Friday, he'll bring his solo set to The Bishop with drummer Tommy Larkin, the same man who played with him in his role as half of a Greek chorus in 1998's There's Something About Mary. His live set will likely contain few of the sounds that inspired the likes of Iggy Pop and Sex Pistols and more of the low-key, acoustic music that has characterized his later career. Look forward to an evening of virtuosic guitar work and ripped-from-the-heart songwriting delivered by a longtime consummate professional.
