Hoosiers Defeat Nittany Lions

I wonder if head coach Tracy Smith wishes his team could bottle up a performance like this and save some for later. Behind a seven-run second inning, Indiana's offense exploded for 14 runs to win their Big Ten opener 14-2 against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Sophomore starter Joey DeNato shut down the Nittany Lions, surrendering a lone run on four hits.

Hoosiers to open walk-on tryouts in April

Yesterday, IU Coach Kevin Wilson said his team is looking a little thin now that last year's seniors have left and the 2012 recruiting class hasn't completely arrived yet. Soon, however, Wilson will evaluate students who look to walk on to the team. Walk-on tryouts will occur in early April, according to IU Athletics, for students enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours at IU-Bloomington. IU Athletics encourages students interested in trying out to contact Assistant Athletic Director Mark Deal at mrdeal@indiana.edu before noon on Wednesday, March 28.

Changes in Littrell's offense put ball in the hands of wideouts

During the 2011 season, the Arizona Wildcats, whose offense was headed by current IU Offensive Coordinator Seth Littrell, completed 398 passes, and five receivers had more than 35 catches. The Hoosiers attempted just 378 passes, and rising junior wide receiver Kofi Hughes led the team with 35 receptions. If the opening weeks of spring practice are any indication to wide receivers such as Shane Wynn, the Hoosier offensive attack will produce numbers closer to those of the Wildcats. "I love Coach Littrell," Wynn said.

Tourney Trends

Between your heart stopping when Will Sheehey didn't hold for the last shot or when Rob Brandenberg almost went Watford on IU, you probably haven't had time to dissect the box scores of the first two NCAA Tournament games. Luckily for you, I'm a college student in Portland with a messed up sleep schedule and nothing else to do.
