Nebraska officially accepts Big Ten invite

UPDATE: Nebraska is now officially a member of the Big 10, effective July 2011. Let the much-expected makeover of the college athletics landscape begin. The University of Nebraska made the second of what appears to be many moves by officially accepting an invitation to join the Big Ten today. The school decided to leave the Big 12, a conference in which its athletic teams have competed since the league's inception in 1996, in a board of regents' meeting today.

Dunham getting plenty of interest

Pendleton Heights junior Kellen Dunham, who is being recruited by IU basketball coach Tom Crean, said Thursday that he is getting plenty of interest from Division-I schools around the country. The 6-foot-4 guard is currently considering IU, Butler, Wright State, Wisconsin and Stanford, amongst others, he said.

NCAA Championships update

UPDATE: Jeff Coover has tied for 5th place in the pole vault. He is now a four-time All-American. Sarah Pease qualified for the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:09.03.

Izzo update

Izzo has reportedly not made a decision on whether he will bolt for the pros, according to a text message he sent to a friend, talk-show host Jack Ebling.

Conference shake-up updates

USA Today is reporting that both Texas and Texas A&M are interested in joining the Big Ten. The initial report came from KCTV-5 in Kansas City. KCTV-5 also said that Oklahoma will look to join the SEC.

Johnson earns Freshman All-America honors

Micah Johnson has been named a 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and becomes the 3rd Hoosier in 3 years to receive a Freshman All-America award. He is also the 2nd Hoosier this season to earn All-America honors, as sophomore Alex Dickerson was named a Louisville Slugger All-American.

News around the NCAA

USC UPDATE: The USC football team will be unable to participate in the 2010 and 2011 postseasons, and will vacate all wins that former RB Reggie Bush was involved in (beginning in Dec '04), including the 2004 championship.

Kasavana continues earning academic honors

Per IU: Senior rower Emily Kasavana was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team, announced on Thursday, June 10, by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Kasavana earned First Team All-District 5 honors, which made her eligible for All-America status.

Nebraska reportedly joins Big Ten

Several sources are reporting that Nebraska has accepted an offer to join the Big Ten. Nothing official has come from the Big Ten, the decision should be coming Friday. Check back for more updates!

Two Hoosiers earn Big Ten Medal of Honor award

Per IU: Men's soccer's Ofori Sarkodie and cross country/track and field's Wendi Robinson have been named the Indiana University winners of the Big Ten Medal of Honor, the conference office announced today. The award was established in 1914 when the Big Ten endowed a Medal of Honor to be given annually to a student in the graduating class of each university that demonstrated proficiency in scholarship and athletics.
