Today, his 18th birthday, Sarasota (Fla.) wide receiver Ricky Jones chose to attend IU in the fall and play for IU Coach Kevin Wilson.
He is the 24th member of the 2012 recruiting class and looks to play either wide receiver or defensive back for IU. He said he played cornerback his freshman year of high school and then became a slot receiver. During his senior season, he played on both offense and defense and said he is comfortable on either side of the ball.
His decision comes two days after he concluded his official visit to IU. He grew up watching the SEC and said he has only watched a handful of Big Ten teams play.
"I haven't actually seen IU football before," Jones said. "I've seen Penn State, Michigan State and a little Wisconsin, but I haven't gotten around to seeing Indiana."
If he were to play receiver for IU, he said he looks forward to new Offensive Coordinator Seth Littrell's pass-heavy system.
"They'll probably throw it around a lot," Jones said. "That sounds like my offense. This year, we went to a little bit of a run game and then pass it, but in previous years, we've been straight up passing."
Jones, who Rivals.com rated as a three-star recruit until recently demoting him to two stars, chose IU instead of his other top options: Florida Atlantic University and Western Kentucky.
