We're trying to start something new here at the IDS Basketblog. Each day there is conference action, we'll be giving a brief recap on the day's action. This is a great way to stay updated on the rest of Big Ten and how the conference is shaping as the season continues.

Purdue (15-7, 5-4) 58, Northwestern (12-8, 2-6) 56

  • Purdue forward Robbie Hummel made an awkward baseline jumper with 12 seconds left to give the Boilermakers another victory in Evanston. The game-winner certainly wasn't pretty, but it propelled Purdue to 5-4 in the Big Ten, 15-7 overall and an impressive 3-2 in conference road games.
  • The Boilermaker's defense, which forced 16 Northwestern turnovers, compensated for an offense that shot just 6-of-20 from three-point range and 4-of-8 from the free-throw line.
  • Guard Drew Crawford led the Wildcats with 23 points, three assists and eight rebounds, while Purdue sophomore guard Terone Johnson was the top scorer for the Boilermakers, chipping in 14 points, two steals and three assists

Minnesota (16-6, 4-5) 77, Illinois (15-6, 4-4) 72 OT

  • In another close game, Minnesota came away with a key conference victory at home. With four seconds left and down three, Gopher sophomore guard Austin Hollis scored in the post and Illinois foolishly fouled to create a game-tying and-one play that forced overtime.
  • Starting with their win in Bloomington, Minnesota has won four of their last five games.
  • The Gophers' bench scored 39 points of their 77 points.
  • Guard Brandon Paul led the Illini with 28 points, but did so on 9-of-23 shooting from the field, while teammate forward Meyes Leonard recorded 17 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Austin Hollins scored more than all Minnesota starters with 14 points to accompany four boards.
