Ortega leads most of the match before Thorn forces overtime late. Ortega loses a heartbreaker at the end of the first overtime period. This really hurts IU's upset hopes. Team Score: 8-0 Minnesota
141 lbs.: Mike Thorn pins Mitchell Richey
Thorn dominates the usually Resilient Richey as he has to unranked opponents all season. Team Score: 14-0 Minnesota
149 lbs.: Kurt Kinser decision 5-0 over Danny Zilverberg
Kinser puts Hoosiers on the board, but does not get the pin IU probably needed to stay alive. They need a big upset at this point. Team Score: 14-3 Minnesota
157 lbs.: Paul Young major decision 16-4 over Joe Grygelko
Young, coming off an injury, puts on a takedown clinic against Grygelko. Team Score: 14-7 Minnesota
Intermission Thoughts: I predicted the socre would be 10-7 for IU at this point, so clearly things are not going as well as they could have for the Hoosiers. Ortega's loss hurt a ot, and they needed more than three points to come from Kinser's win. For IU to still have a shot, Alcala needs to win, Powless needs to win big and someone, likely either Ryan LeBlanc or Eric Cameron, needs to pull off a huge upset.
165 lbs.: Cody Yohn decision 2-0 over Ryan LeBlanc
IU almost got the upset it needed, as LeBlanc kept the match close the entire time, but ultimelt could not escape in the third to even the score and prevent riding time. Team Score: 17-7 Minnesota
174 lbs.: Scott Glasser decision 11-3 over Nick Avery
Avery gives a gutsy effort early, but Glasser pulls away late to get the major decison. IU is all but eliminated at this point. They will need to win the three remaining matches and score significant bonus points to pull this one out. Team Score: 21-7 Minnesota
184 lbs.: Kevin Steinhaus major decision 10-1 over Eric Cameron
As with the last match, IU kept it close early, but Minnesota's highly-ranked wrestler pulled away in the second and third. IU is mathematically eliminated now. Team Score: 25-7
197 lbs.: Matt Powless major decision 13-3 over Joe Nord
Another solid takedown clinic for Powless, but it's too little, too late for the team. Team score: 25-11
Heavyweight: Ricky Alcala decision 3-1 over Tony Nelson
A stalling call on Nelson forces overtime, where Alcala gets a takedown for the upset. Big win for Alcala. Final Team Score: 25-14 Minnesota
