Per IU:
A total of 15 Hoosiers have been named All-Academic honorees for track and field by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Nine women and six men were honored, and Indiana's honorees combined for nine All-America certificates in 2010. Molly Beckwith headlines the group of Hoosiers, as she finished second in the 800m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.Director and head coach of track and field at IU, Ron Helmer said the All-Academic selections represent the goals and ideals of the program.
"We want our kids to embody both the student and the athlete in student-athlete," said Helmer. "It is always good to see the hard work these young people put in on the track and in the field, and at the same time in the classroom, get recognized."
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
