Sorry this came late everyone, but the media were not invited to IU's Pro Day this year. So, I had to do some digging . . .
Here are Brown's times:
Player: Greg Brown, defensive tackle Weight 299 lbs.
Numbers:
40 yard dash- 5.09 sec. *** Note, last spring he ran a 5.3, 40.
Bench: 25 Reps at 225 lbs.
Vertical: 30 inches
Broad: 8'9 feet
20 yard shuttle: Best- 4.45 seconds. Second- 4.46 seconds. ***Greg told me this was his best event. He said lateral movement is tough for guys his weight. He said the times were amazing and shocking.
Long Shuttle: 7.38 seconds.
Overall, Brown's numbers are quite staggering. I have no doubt in my mind teams will give him a call for a workout. He is a great guy not only on the field, but off it as well. After covering this team last season, I can honestly say he was one of a select few who busted it all the time. He did not receive much individual coverage last season because the team was so bad. It wasn't only us though. Other papers and websites did not chronicle his career nor year either. But- back to his Pro Day.
Please note these times are very good for a guy who weights in at 299. That 40 time and, moreover, that 20 yard shuttle time are great. To my knowledge there were only a handful of NFL scouts at IU on Tuesday. But as you know, word spreads pretty quick when there's an under-the-radar defensive lineman up for grabs. If so, teams will be contacting Brown and his agent within the next 30 days. He will then perform private workouts at the team's location. Personally, I think Brown is going to get a step closer to fulfilling his dream.
The NFL draft is in April. I think Greg will get some calls by then.
