If a true college atmosphere wasn't enough reason, IU Athletics will begin to reward students who regularly attend sporting events on campus this fall with prizes.

Through a rewards program called the Crimson Club, students who go to enough games will be eligible for prizes such as laptop computers, lunch with select Hoosier head coaches and a 42" HDTV.

Students can accumulate points by swiping their University ID card at athletic events they attend, whether it's a football game or a non-revenue sport. The more games you attend, the more points you get. The more points you get, the better chance you have of breaking bread with Bill Lynch.

The athletic department has been considering a form of this idea for some time. A few weeks ago, IU Athletics' Marketing Director Jeff Cieply came and spoke to a class of mine and discussed how the Hoosiers could get more students to come to their games. One of the most popular ideas discussed that day in class was the Crimson Club.

More than anything, after hearing Cieply speak and talking to Fred Glass on a few occasions, IU Athletics has a huge interest in raising student attendance. Student season basketball tickets were at an all-time low last season and the department has traditionally struggled to get students to cross 17th Street on football game days.

Students can begin purchasing season tickets for football and men's basketball beginning on April 6, according to the release.

IU Athletics has lowered the price of student football season tickets to $30 this season. Men's basketball and football season tickets can be purchased for $280.
