Despite turnovers, missed shots and three early fouls on Devan Dumes, the Hoosiers played a competitive first half against No. 14 Michigan State, the conference's top team.

But IU's shortcomings eventually caught up to them, and the Spartans, the Big Ten leander, began to play more like themselves. The Hoosiers (6-19, 1-9) lost to MSU on Saturday, 75-47. The loss marks IU's sixth loss of the season by 20+ points.

The game pitted two old friends, Tom Crean and Tom Izzo, against one another for only the second time in their careers. Both times, Izzo has gotten the best of his former assistant.

In addition to losing the game, the Hoosiers also lost Dumes in the closing minutes of the second half to an ejection. ESPN replays showed Dumes throwing elbows on three separate plays, with at least two of them landing on Spartans. On the third, the officials ejected Dumes.

The Hoosiers now have two days off before they must hit the road again to play No. 19 Minnesota (18-4, 6-2). For more coverage of today's game, check back with the basketblog and idsnews.com. For a blow-by-blow recap of today's live blog, follow the jump.
