Eli Holman has yet to reveal his plans on whether he is staying at IU, and little has been mentioned as far as the possible reinstatements of Armon Bassett or Jamarcus Ellis. Additionally, academics are a serious concern for some of the players, and IU still has a June date with the NCAA Infractions Committee.
On a positive note, Tom Crean has filled two roster spots for next year, although neither will be scholarship players. After turning down an offer from Boston University of the America East Conference, Carmel High School's 5-foot-10 guard Daniel Moore will be joining the Hoosiers next year. Moore was first-team senior all-state, averaging 13.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 7.6 assists this season, according to an Indianapolis Star article.
Also headed to Bloomington is Rochester High School's Kory Barnett. Barnett, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound small forward, averaged 11.7 points and 4.3 assists as a game last season, according to John Decker of HoosierNation.com, while also hitting 35-percent of his three-point shots.
The Hoosiers are still in the mix for Junior College forward/center Josh Harrellson, as are four or five other schools. Kentucky and St. Louis may be the two to beat as he has already scheduled visits with the schools, according to multiple sources.
Nick Williams, a 6-foot-5 guard from Alabama, has been released from his Letter of Intent at Marquette and has serious interest in IU. Williams' high school coach told Terry Hutchens of the Indy Star, "Right now I'd say it's 60 Indiana, 40 everybody else."
Guard Verdell Jones, another of Crean's top targets for next year, reportedly had an unofficial visit to IU on Friday.
Until, or maybe if, anyone signs with the Hoosiers in the late signing period, which began today, and pending both the Holman and academic situations, IU's lineup could look something like this next year:
G- Jordan Crawford, So.
G- Matt Roth, Fr.
F- Brandon McGee, So.
F- DeAndre Thomas, Sr.
C- Eli Holman, So.
Bench: G Brett Finkelmeier (So.), G Daniel Moore (Fr.), F Kory Barnett (Fr.), F Kyle Taber (Sr.), C Tom Pritchard (Fr.)
Thoughts?
