Hey folks,
The Hoosiers finally got off the schnide today with a 16-4 win over New Mexico State in the second round of the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic in sunny Fresno, Calif.
The Hoosiers rode a 4-for-5 day from sophomore shortstop Evan Crawford for the win. Crawford mixed in three RBIs on the day, moving his season total to seven.
The big news of the day, however, was the Hoosiers' 11-run (yes, 11) sixth inning, during which the following things happened:
--IU scored 11 (in case you missed it - OK, I know, I'm just a smart mouth) runs on six hits and six walks
--The Aggies saw a 3-2 deficit turn rather quickly into a 14-3 hole.
--IU scored all 11 (one more time) runs with two outs.
--Chris Hervey got two hits in one inning - as a pinch hitter.
--New Mexico State pitchers Jeremy Joustra and Kyle McFadden - brought on in relief with two outs in the inning - combined for NO outs, seven batters faced, four hits, seven earned runs, three walks and 30 total pitches.
I think you get the point. The Hoosiers not just demolished the Aggies, but also their first real losing streak of the season.
The win moves them back to 4-6, with a fine chance at building a winning streak to counteract the losing one they just endured, with four more games over the next four days.
However, the task certainly won't be easy. The Hoosiers' first opponent is host Fresno State, who beat IU 6-2 and 9-4 in the first two games between the teams.
