- Sophomore safety Austin Thomas finished the day with 22 tackles, just four tackles short of the all-time IU record. IU coach Bill Lynch took Thomas out of the game with a couple minutes left and very well could have broken the record. One reason why a safety nearly broke the record was due to the Hoosiers inability to tackle up front. Spartan running backs Javon Ringer and Jehuu Caulcrick ran all over the IU front seven, and broke tackles at will.

- Junior kicker Austin Starr kicked two field goals against the Spartans (40 and 47 yards) to give him 14-15 kicks made on the year. He also broke a school record of field goals made in a row (set in 1982 by Doug Smith), by making his eleventh straight kick Saturday.

- Junior wide receiver James Hardy caught six balls for 121 yards, giving him a school record 11, 100-yard receiving games in his career.

- Junior cornerback Tracy Porter returned a 76-yard fumble for a touchdown, making him the only player in IU history to score touchdowns on a punt return, interception return, and a fumble return. It was also the second-longest fumble return for a touchdown in school history.

- Sophomore defensive lineman Greg Middleton registered his ninth sack on the year, and is still the Big Ten sack leader.

- The Hoosiers sacked Spartan quarterback Brian Hoyer three times, giving them 32 on the year - four short of the school record.

Though the Hoosiers were spanked 52-27 by Michigan State, some of the individual records set on Saturday seem to be encouraging for the rest of the year. Are they encouraging to you? Please submit your answers and we'll get back to you. Thanks guys.
