Junior Derek Elston from Tipton, Indiana committed to Kelvin Sampson and the Hoosiers last evening according to reports on recruiting service website, www.peegs.com.
The 6 foot, 8 inch forward is currently ranked 97th nationally in the class of 2009 according to recruiting service www.rivals.com. He is one of several in-state prospects who is being recruited by IU. Elston had a scholarship offer from Purdue and was getting interest from Roy Williams and North Carolina.
Michael is going to try to catch up with Derek this evening after school, as Derek has to sit through 7 hours of school today (how I did that once, I will never know).
While the 2009 class is taking shape, there is still a lot of work left for Sampson and his staff with the class of 2008. Forwards Tyler Zeller, Kevin Jones and Tom Prichard should be making decisions in the next couple of months. Check back with the Basketblog and the IDS for more coverage.
