Welcome to the first ever post on The Inside Pitch. If the incredibly cliche headline to this post, the title of the blog and the banner haven't given you an idea what we're going to do here, let me explain.

Our goal with this blog is to give you, the reader, more coverage of IU baseball than you thought possible. Sandwiched between basketball season and Little 500, baseball sometimes gets left with little space in the paper. We hope to supplement the baseball content the print edition provides thanks to the unlimited space of the Internet.

We've gotten a bit of a late jump (the team is already 16 games into the season). But we're firing up just in time for home games and Big Ten season. We plan to do a more in-depth analysis of matchups and opposing teams than we can in the paper, update during weekend series and involve readers in discussions about baseball (who doesn't like that).

Three writers will be contributing here. Tim O'Brien and Lee Hurwitz are the beat writers. My name is Jake Brown, and I'll be the columnist for this blog. Between us we have 8 years experience on the sports desk and loads of baseball knowledge.

OK, introductions are done. We're going to practice today to talk to IU coach Tracy Smith and some players about this weekend's series against IPFW. We'll be back later with some preview material and a post to update everyone on the season so far. See you then.
