No. 12 Indiana field hockey shut out Ohio University 5-0 Sunday afternoon at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington. With their win, the Hoosiers improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in Big Ten play.
The Hoosiers matched their 2025 win total, when they finished 9-9, with four regular-season games remaining.
Just over a minute and a half into the first quarter, sophomore forward Molly Stutte opened the scoring, giving Indiana an early 1-0 lead.
After the quick start, the two teams went back and forth throughout the first half. Indiana recorded 10 shots, including six on goal, in the first two quarters, with eight shots coming in the second. Ohio managed just two shots and couldn't capitalize on its two penalty corners.
With two seconds remaining in the half, senior forward/midfielder Theresa Ricci scored on an assist from junior forward/midfielder Charlotte Glasper, giving the Hoosiers a 2-0 lead at the break.
Indiana continued to build its advantage in the second half. After a passing sequence, sophomore forward Celia Arroyo Cabezudo found the back of the cage with just under six minutes remaining in the third quarter to put the Hoosiers ahead 3-0. Senior midfielder Inés Garcia Prado recorded the assist.
With just over 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Arroyo Cabezudo struck again. Garcia Prado split two defenders with skillful stick work and delivered a pass to set up the goal. The second score brought Arroyo Cabezudo's season total to eight, which ties with Stutte for the team lead.
Glasper added Indiana’s final goal with three minutes and 36 seconds remaining. Junior goalkeeper Sadie Canelli made four saves as the Hoosiers recorded their fifth shutout of the season and third in their last four games.
Indiana finished with a 17-6 shot advantage and put 10 shots on goal compared to Ohio's four. The Hoosiers recorded eight shots in the second quarter alone and held the Bobcats without a shot in the third. The Bobcats recorded four shots in the final quarter, but Indiana preserved its shutout. Both teams finished with three penalty corners.
With four regular-season games remaining, Arroyo Cabezudo believes Indiana has improved since last season. The Hoosiers were 6-7 at the same point in 2025 before winning three of their final four games.
“For me, last year, we also had a great team, but I feel every year, we're getting better and better,” Arroyo Cabezudo said postgame on Big Ten+. “So, I think this is the year.”
The Hoosiers will next host No. 1 Northwestern at 3 p.m. Friday at Deborah Tobias Field. The Wildcats are coming off their first loss of the season, falling to Princeton University on Sunday.
Arroyo Cabezudo said the Hoosiers are already preparing for the upcoming challenge.
“It's going to be a difficult game, but I feel we're prepared for it,” Arroyo Cabezudo said.
Indiana’s game against Northwestern will be streamed on Big Ten+.
