Indiana softball continued its fall schedule Sunday afternoon at Andy Mohr Field with a 15-1 victory over Indiana Tech in a 10-inning exhibition.
After two scoreless innings, Indiana Tech struck first in the top of the third. A single followed by a sacrifice bunt moved a runner into scoring position before another single brought home the first run of the game.
The Hoosiers responded quickly in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs to take a 5-1 lead.
Junior outfielder Hannah Haberstroh started the momentum with a triple before freshman outfielder Sarah Miller singled to bring her home and tie the game. Indiana continued to load the bases, bringing multiple runners around to score. Senior utility player Alex Cooper capped the inning with a triple to extend the Hoosiers’ lead to 5-1.
Indiana added another run in the fourth inning. Sophomore outfielder Jada Ellison reached base on a bunt single before freshman outfielder Addie Martin and freshman pitcher Leah Helton recorded hits to load the bases. Freshman infielder Brynn Meyer then hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Ellison and extending Indiana’s advantage to 6-1.
Junior catcher and infielder Josie Bird added to the lead in the fifth inning, hitting a solo home run to make it 7-1.
Indiana’s offensive momentum continued in the sixth inning. Ellison reached base and stole second before Martin drew a walk. Meyer followed with a base hit which brought both runners home.
The Hoosiers added two more runs in the seventh inning with back-to-back home runs. Cooper opened the bottom of the inning with a solo home run before Bird followed with her second home run of the game.
Bird’s two home runs Sunday continued the power she displayed throughout her sophomore season. She hit 15 home runs and recorded 66 RBIs during the 2026 regular season while batting .355.
The Hoosiers continued to rotate players into the game as the exhibition continued, giving several young players opportunities at the plate. Indiana’s depth remained on display as its offense continued producing throughout the game.
Indiana put together another four-run inning in the eighth. Freshman infielder Emma Bruggenschmidt reached base with a single before junior infielder Madalyn Strader hit a two-run triple. Cooper followed with an RBI single to score Strader. Sophomore outfielder Nevaeh Nash, who entered as a pinch runner, later scored on a bases loaded walk.
Cooper recorded a triple, home run and single, falling just a double short of the cycle Sunday. She is in her fourth season with Indiana and earned Big Ten All-Defensive, All-Freshman, and All-Tournament honors during her freshman season.
Indiana’s bullpen held Indiana Tech scoreless following its third-inning run. The Hoosiers rotated pitchers throughout the 10-inning exhibition, including junior Ella Troutt, senior Brooke Mannon, freshman Leah Helton and redshirt senior Taylor Hess.
The matchup was Indiana’s second of its seven-game fall slate. Fall exhibitions are played over 10 innings rather than the standard seven, allowing Indiana to rotate more players into the lineup.
Indiana will return to Andy Mohr Field at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to face the University of Louisville in its third fall exhibition.
