Indiana field hockey moved to No. 13 in the Tuesday’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll after defeating then-No. 13 Michigan 1-0 on Saturday at Deborah Tobias Field.
The Hoosiers climbed five spots after entering last week’s poll at No. 18. Indiana is now 6-3 overall and 2-0 in Big Ten play.
The win against Michigan was Indiana’s second victory against a ranked Big Ten opponent this season. The Hoosiers previously defeated then-No. 2 Iowa 3-1 on Sept. 18.
The Hoosiers are one of five Big Ten teams ranked in this week’s poll. Northwestern is No. 1, followed by Maryland at No. 2 and Iowa at No. 6. Michigan dropped to No. 15 after its loss to the Cream and Crimson.
Indiana junior goalkeeper Sadie Canelli was also named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, the conference announced. It is the junior’s first Big Ten weekly honor.
Canelli made four saves against Michigan to record her third shutout of the season. She shared the award with Northwestern senior back/midfielder Ilse Tromp.
Indiana will return to action at 4:00 p.m. Friday against Michigan State in East Lansing, Michigan. The game will be streamed on Big Ten+.
