The following is a press release written by Miles Eddy for Braver Angels Indiana.

On Saturday September 5, 2026, Braver Angels, a national nonpartisan nonprofit providing tools for depolarizing our communities, will host the workshop “Skills for Disagreeing Better” at the Southwest Branch of the Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington, Indiana.  This two-hour in-person workshop begins at 11am and teaches better skills for sharing viewpoints in a way the other person might hear — even if they disagree — and to better understand the values and concerns of people who differ from you politically.

RSVP is requested at www.BraverAngels.org/indiana (Promo Code “BRAVER” for free registration) as seating is limited.  For more information reach out to Moderator Miles Eddy at meddy@BraverAngels.org or (812) 361-0067.

Launched in 2016, Braver Angels is a non-profit bipartisan citizen’s movement to unify America.  By bringing Americans together into a working alliance, Braver Angels is building new ways to talk to one another, participate together in public life, and influence the direction of the nation.  Indiana Braver Angels began in 2018 with the Red/Blue workshop in Bloomington.  A local alliance started soon thereafter and is now leading weekly conversations.

In this polarized time, we lack basic understanding of why people on the other political side hold their beliefs. We don’t see them as they see themselves – their core values and central concerns – but instead as we choose to see them.  We are tempted to regard our own side as principled and the other side as self-interested.  When we try to communicate across this gap, we often lack the skills for listening carefully, looking for common ground, and sharing our perspectives in ways that connect rather than create more misunderstanding.

By creating opportunities for meaningful discussions, Braver Angels works to dial down the heated rhetoric that gets in the way of real conversations and accurate understanding of our differences.  The objective is not to push an agenda or change participant’s minds, but rather to provide a safe place for deeper understanding.

** This event is open to the media upon approval.  Send requests to press@braverangels.org.
