As the regular season reaches its final stretch, Indiana track and field competed at the Jesse Owens Invitational hosted by Ohio State over the weekend. The meet saw 28 Hoosiers finish in the top five of their events, accompanied by multiple personal bests.
Starting on Friday, sophomore Nikolaos Sidirenios placed third in the men's hammer throw with a personal best mark of 62.84 meters, moving him up to sixth all time in school history.
Similarly, junior Bridget Beyer finished third in the women’s competition, throwing 57.01 meters.
The men’s javelin saw freshman Rocklan Boisseau finish in third, throwing the javelin 55.86 meters.
On the track, three Hoosiers finished in the top 10 of the women’s 1500-meter run. Junior Lily Myers finished second with a time of 4:27.13, followed by sophomores Michaela Quinn and Catie McCabe in fifth and seventh with 4:30.01 and 4:31.18, respectively.
Freshman Kalen Sargent ran 21.024 seconds for fifth place, separated by two thousandths of a second from fourth place, which went to Dubem Amah. Sargent also finished third in the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 48.18 seconds.
The women’s 200-meter dash had three Hoosiers finish in the top 10. Sophomores Kiera Davis and Aliyah Johnson finished in third and fourth, running 23.92 and 24.01, respectively. Additionally, freshman Ava Olomajeye finished seventh with a time of 24.48 seconds.
Sophomore Tyler Tarter placed second in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.22 seconds, followed by senior John Colquitt in seventh with a time of 53.96 seconds.
Sophomore Tony Provenzano closed out Friday’s competition with an event victory in the men’s 5,000 meter-run in 14:02.00.
Saturday began with a second-place finish from senior Makayla Hunter in the women’s shot put with a throw of 17.03 meters. She also placed fourth in the women’s discus with a mark of 46.77 meters.
Indiana saw senior Taylor Schoonveld and sophomore Josie Page place first and second in the women’s high jump, jumping 1.73 and 1.71 meters, respectively.
Similarly, senior Tyler Carrel and freshman Lukas Brauc finished first and second in the men’s pole vault with marks of 5.26 and 5.21 meters, respectively.
Junior Andrew Mangum finished third in the men’s 800 meter-run, followed by teammates junior Aidan Lord, freshman D’Angelo Brown, and sophomore Matt Kim in sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
Senior Trelee Banks-Rose finished the men’s 100-meter dash in 10.17 seconds with a 3.8 m/s tailwind. He did not compete in the finals.
The 3,000-meter steeplechase saw two Hoosiers finish in the top four spots of their races. On the women’s side, sophomore Joey Rastrelli finished first with a time of 10:26.19, ranking her in the top 100 in the NCAA for the event.
Junior Garrett Hicks finished fourth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:04.23 seconds.
Indiana track and field will host its Billy Hayes Invitational at the Robert C. Haugh Complex on May 8.
