Indiana baseball is set to open a road series against Northwestern at Wrigley Field in May this year, Indiana athletics announced Wednesday. Wrigley Field has been home to the Chicago Cubs since 1916.
The May 1 matchup will mark Indiana’s first game in a Major League Baseball stadium since March 2019, when it played the University of Washington, Oregon State University, and San Diego in a three-game series at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
The game will mark Northwestern baseball’s fifth appearance at Wrigley Field as part of its ongoing partnership with the Chicago Cubs. The Wildcats first played at the Friendly Confines in 2013, then returned in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Indiana is 4-3 all-time in games played at Major League ballparks. The Hoosiers went 1-2 in their most recent appearance at T-Mobile Park in 2019 but went 3-1 at Target Field during the 2013 Big Ten Tournament. The Wildcats are 3-1 all-time at Wrigley Field with a 29-18 run differential.
The ballpark also has a Hoosier connection—former IU standout Kyle Schwarber, drafted by the Cubs in 2014, has hit 62 career home runs at Wrigley Field.
Indiana leads the all-time series against the Wildcats 39-20. First pitch is set for 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. EDT on Big Ten Plus. The final two games of the weekend series are scheduled for Northwestern’s home field in Evanston.
Last season. Wrigley Field ranked the third most pitcher-friendly park in MLB by Baseball Savant, which could point to a lower-scoring opener.
