With many different musicians coming to Bloomington this week, there are options for every kind of music lover.
Wednesday
The Orbit Room will host the Cosmic Songwriter’s Showcase at 7 p.m. The event is for all ages and costs $5.67 and a required food or drink purchase. The show will pair local performers on stage to alternate back and forth, sharing their songs and the stories behind them.
Bloomington cover band Welcome to The Neighborhood will perform at The Bluebird. The 21-and-up show will start at 10 p.m., and tickets cost $12.43. The band plays covers of a variety of different genres including pop, rock, country, indie and alternative music.
Thursday
Cincinnati-based band Joe’s Truck Stop will kick off their “Better Than Buc-ee's” tour at the Orbit Room. The all-ages show will start at 8:15 p.m. with opener Matt Lundquist, a local Bloomington musician who often plays folk rock and country blues. Tickets for the show cost $13.60 with a food or drink purchase required in addition to the ticket. Joe’s Truck Stop is known for country, blues and western music.
Classic rock student band Opal will perform at The Bluebird on Thursday. The show is for those 21 and older and will start at 10 p.m., with tickets costing $12.43 a person. The band typically plays classic rock cover songs at its shows.
Friday
The band Congress will perform at The Bluebird for ages 21 and older. The show will start at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $18.65. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, the band is coming to Bloomington as part of their spring tour. The group mainly plays indie and rock covers, along with a few original singles.
IU’s all female a cappella group Ladies First will have its spring show Friday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The show will start at 8 p.m., and tickets will cost $20.79, with student tickets available for $15.66.
Saturday
Liam Campbell-Carpenter will perform his sophomore recital at the Orbit Room. Carpenter is currently a sophomore at the Jacobs School of Music and will perform funk and jazz music. The show will begin at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $5.67 with a food or drink purchase required.
Tortilla Jackson, the Bloomington jazz ensemble, will perform at the Orbit Room. The show will start at 8:30 p.m., and tickets cost $11.33 with a food or drink purchase required. The group plays Latin psych jazz, a subgenre of jazz blending Latin American rhythms with improvisations and psychedelic rock. The show will be for all ages.
The Bluebird will host a ‘90s country night with country artist Jake Dodds. The 21-and-up show will start at 9 p.m., and tickets cost $12.43. Dodds has some original country singles, though he mainly performs covers.
