No. 6 Indiana women’s swim and dive competed at the Big Ten Championships from Wednesday to Saturday at the Jane K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

The Hoosiers took second place with 1,084 points. Indiana was 159 points behind Big Ten Champion Michigan and 18 points ahead of Ohio State, which came in third place.

The first day of competition opened with the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay.

The Hoosiers’ 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Jonette Laegreid, junior Miranda Grana and seniors Mya DeWitt and Kristina Paegle placed fifth. Their time of 1:35.53 was 2.24 seconds slower than Michigan, which took first place in the event.

Junior Macky Hodges and freshmen Liberty Clark, Alex Shackell and Grace Hoeper set a program record in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a second-place time of 6:51.11. Their mark beat the previous program record by nearly three seconds. Clark recorded the lowest split out of the four with a 1:41.32.

At the end of the first day, Indiana was tied with Wisconsin for third place with 106 points. The Hoosiers were 22 points behind first-place Michigan, and two points behind second-place Ohio State.

Indiana pulled ahead to second place after the second day of competition with two individual first-place finishes.

Clark and Shackell won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, respectively. Both earned the top seed in their respective events during Thursday’s preliminary session.

Clark won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.84. She outpaced Michigan junior Stephanie Balduccini, who won the event last year.

Shackell broke a program record with a time of 49.95 seconds, defeating Michigan’s senior Brady Kendall and Grana. Grana, who previously held Indiana’s record in the 100-yard butterfly, placed third in the event for one of Indiana’s four medals Thursday.

Indiana recorded yet another program record when the quartet of Clark, Shackell, DeWitt and Paegle finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:26.20, which put them in second place behind Michigan.

Junior Ella Roselli was the Hoosiers’ top diver Thursday, placing sixth in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 282.75.

The Hoosiers sat in second place with 398 points after Thursday's competition — 119.5 points behind Michigan and eight points clear of Ohio State.

However, after pulling into second place through two days, Indiana fell behind on the third, despite claiming four medals.

Grana finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.33 seconds. Clark and Paegle placed second and third, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. Clark’s time of 21.47 once again set an Indiana program record. Paegle finished the race in 21.57.

The Hoosier quartet of Grana, Laegreid, Shackell and Clark earned Indiana’s fourth medal of the day in the 400-yard medley relay. Their time of 3:26.15 put them in second place, just over two seconds behind first-place Michigan.

Junior Lily Witte and Roselli placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 3-meter dive. Witte notched a final score of 323.50, while Roselli recorded a 317.10.

After Friday’s competition, the Hoosiers held third place with 694 points, 20.5 points behind second-place Ohio State, and 189 points behind Michigan, which was running away with the contest.

Clark earned her second individual Big Ten championship title in the 100-yard freestyle on the final day. She finished the event in 46.22 seconds, which was .79 better than Ohio State sophomore Rachel Bockrath, who placed second. Clark also set a program record.

Shackell was .37 seconds off first place in the 200-yard butterfly. Her time of 1:50.71 was just behind Michigan junior Hannah Bellard.

Hodges claimed third place in the 200-yard backstroke Saturday with a time of 1:25.74.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Indiana’s team of Shackell, Clark, Paegle and Hoeper finished first with a time of 3:07.72, which marked a program and Big Ten record. At the start of this season, the previous program record was 3:10.47 set in 2025. The previous conference record was 3:08.07.

Roselli and sophomore Mary Kate Cavanaugh were the Hoosiers’ top finishers in the platform diving event Saturday. Roselli placed fifth with a score of 278.60, and Cavanaugh placed eighth with 240.55.

Clark was the Hoosiers’ top performer at the Big Ten Championships. She scored 92 total points, which tied Michigan junior Bella Simms for the most by an individual. The Chico, California, native medaled in seven events.

Clark, Hoeper, Paegel and Shackell were all awarded with All-Big Ten first team honors after the meet. DeWitt, Hodges, Grana and Laegreid each received All-Big Ten second team.

The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships will take place March 9-11 at the Michael H. Jones Natatorium in Ypsilanti, Michigan. There, divers will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on March 18-21 in Atlanta. Conference champions, including Clark in the 100 and 200-yard freestyles, Shackell in the 100-yard butterfly and the 400-yard freestyle relay team, automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships.
