A car accident killed Theadora Wellman, a 74-year-old Bloomington woman, Wednesday evening. The accident also left three injured, according to a Thursday morning press release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office release, MCSO received a report around 6:16 p.m. that people were injured after a car crash around South Rockport Road at West Stansifer Court. Wellman was pronounced dead on scene. Monroe County Coroner Jeff Hall identified Wellman as the woman killed in an email Thursday afternoon.

Preliminary evidence obtained by MCSO indicates a Subaru driven by a 48-year-old Bloomington man crossed left of center into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the woman, who was driving a Kia. The release said that a third vehicle, a Toyota driven by a 58-year-old Bloomington man, then became involved, but did not specify its role in the accident.

The 48-year-old man was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained during the crash as well as a 7-year-old who was also in the car and sustained serious injuries. The 58-year-old man was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators from the Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team responded to the accident, and the roadway was shut down for several hours for reconstruction.

According to the release from MCSO, an investigation into the crash is still ongoing, and more information will be released when it becomes available.

UPDATE: This story has been updated with the identity of Theadora Wellman.
