Indiana football redshirt senior defensive lineman Hosea Wheeler entered the transfer portal Thursday, according to CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer.
Wheeler previously transferred to Indiana in December 2024 after spending three seasons at Western Kentucky University, where he was a two-time all-Conference USA player. The Sacramento, California, native accumulated 31 total tackles during his lone season with the Hoosiers.
Wheeler started five of Indiana’s 16 games throughout its historic run to the program’s first national championship. He made four tackles for loss and recovered a pair of fumbles — against UCLA and Wisconsin.
Wheeler was part of a defensive line forced to replace Kellan Wyatt and Stephen Daley’s production after each of them suffered season-ending knee injuries.
Now, Wheeler is set to find a new home elsewhere. He’s the 14th Hoosier to enter the portal, with quarterback Alberto Mendoza being the most notable. Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti has compiled a 17-man transfer portal class thus far, which ranks seventh-best nationally, according to 247 Sports.
