Monroe County will be under a winter weather advisory from 5 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday.
The National Weather Service expects snow accumulation between 2-5 inches across south and central Indiana, according to the advisory. The NWS advises those driving to plan for “slippery road conditions” Thursday evening and Friday morning.
Temperatures in Monroe County could approach zero degrees or lower over the weekend, according to the Monroe County Emergency Management agency.
Much of the central and eastern U.S. will see cold weather this weekend due to a polar vortex. Many areas could experience “hazardous cold” around 20-30 degrees below average temperatures, according to the NWS.
