After wins over the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Dec. 11 and Eastern Michigan University on Sunday, the Big Ten awarded Indiana women’s basketball’s senior guard Shay Ciezki and freshman forward Maya Makalusky with weekly honors, according to a release from the conference Monday.
Ciezki was named Big Ten Player of the Week, while Makalusky was awarded with Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.
Ciezki scored 31 points and 25 points against ULM and Eastern Michigan, respectively. She shot 70.6% in her outing against ULM and 52.9% against Eastern Michigan.
Monday marked the second time this season that Ciezki took home Big Ten Player of the Week. Her first recognition was Nov. 10, after Ciezki dropped 22 points against Lipscomb University on Nov. 4 and 35 points against the University of Illinois Chicago on Nov. 7.
Ciezki currently leads the Big Ten in scoring with 24.9 points per game this season, which has helped the Hoosiers to a 10-2 overall record. The Buffalo, New York, native is also averaging 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Makalusky earned the award after a 22-point performance against ULM, marking a career high in her first start with the Hoosiers. She scored her 22 points off 8-for-12 shooting from the field and going 6 for 10 from 3-point range.
Then, Makalusky made her second start against Eastern Michigan, recording nine points and six rebounds in the Hoosiers’ 74-67 win over the Eagles. The Fishers, Indiana, native is averaging 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for the Hoosiers.
Indiana will take on Western Carolina University in its final nonconference game of the season at 1 p.m. Dec. 21 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. The contest will stream on Big Ten+.
