Indiana women’s basketball senior guard Shay Ciezki was named Big Ten Player of the Week, according to a conference announcement Monday. The 5-foot-7 Ciezki averaged 28.5 points while shooting 52.6% from the field and 56.3% from behind the 3-point arc to begin the season.

Ciezki helped the Hoosiers start 2-0 after dropping 35 points against the University of Illinois Chicago last Friday. After being down 34-27 at halftime, Ciezki had 25 out of Indiana’s 45 second half points to give the Cream and Crimson a 72-56 victory.

Ciezki rebounded from a 3-of-8 start from the field in the first half. She finished the contest 12-of-21 from the floor and knocked down seven out of her 10 attempts from 3-point range. Her performance boosted Indiana’s poor shooting performance, as the Hoosiers combined for a 16-of-39 mark on their shots.

Ciezki also led all Indiana players in scoring during their season-opening 80-46 win against Lipscomb University on Nov. 4 with 22 points. She finished the game 8-of-17 on her field goal attempts, including a 2-of-6 mark from 3-point range. Ciezki also chipped in five rebounds and three assists.

In addition to her scoring ability, Ciezki is the Hoosiers’ primary ballhandler and main shot creator. She has averaged 2.5 assists per game to go with 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals.

Ciezki leads all Indiana players in free throw makes and attempts this season, as she has started 8-of-8 from the line. In total, the Hoosiers only have a free throw attempt rate of 16.7%, which ranks 313th in the country, per CBB Analytics.

Even though the senior played her previous three college basketball seasons in the Big Ten, including two seasons at Penn State, Ciezki won her first conference Player of the Week honor.

The last Indiana player to win Player of the Week was then-senior guard Sara Scalia on Nov. 20, 2023. Scalia finished the season on the All-Big Ten coaches and media First Teams after averaging 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Indiana women’s basketball continues its 2025-26 campaign at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Marshall University in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Streaming is on Big Ten+. The Hoosiers will then head down to Tallahassee, Florida, for a matchup against Florida State University at 5 p.m. Sunday, streaming on ACC Network.
