Indiana baseball hired Matt Myers as assistant head coach and pitching coach for the 2026 season, according to an Indiana Athletics release Friday. The addition of Myers fills the final open spot on the coaching staff.
Myers replaces Dustin Glant, who left Indiana to accept a coaching position with the Washington Nationals. Myers’ stop with the Hoosiers marks his 11th coaching position in his career. He previously served as head coach at Western Kentucky University for four years. Mercer was an assistant during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Most recently, Myers served as pitching coach for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 2025, his team recorded two perfect games — one July 4 and the other July 13. In October, the Greensboro coaching staff was named the Pittsburgh Pirates' Staff of the Year by the front office.
“Matt and I have been friends for over 10 years, having coached together at Western Kentucky,” Mercer said in the press release. “His values perfectly align with our program’s focus on personal relationships and player development. He communicates effectively, brings people together, and his enthusiasm and relentless optimism are infectious. I’m confident he will serve our team exceptionally well.”
In addition to his tenure at Western Kentucky, Myers spent four seasons as a Division I head coach at the University of North Carolina Asheville, where he earned Big South Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2003. He has also served as pitching coach at Auburn University, the University of North Carolina Wilmington and Lipscomb University.
During his time at UNC Wilmington, he helped guide the pitching staff to a program-record 557 strikeouts in a single season while holding opponents to a .228 batting average. His leadership helped the Seahawks win the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament and earn a spot in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional.
Over his career, Myers has coached 20 pitchers who have been selected in the MLB Draft. In his last colligate coaching position in 2023 at Lipscomb, he guided Logan Van Treeck to Athletic Sun Pitcher of the Year honors after an 8–5 season with 108 strikeouts and just 14 walks.
Myers rounds out Indiana’s 2026 coaching staff alongside assistant coaches Zach Weatherford and Denton Sagerman, with former Hoosier outfielder Morgan Colopy serving as director of operations.
